Comedy channel Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) is hoping to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged children and youth in South Africa thanks to its second laughter-packed comedy benefit, Comedy Central Cares.
Taking place at The Goliath Comedy Club, Melrose Arch on Thursday 25 August, Comedy Central Cares will include stand-up sets from top SA comics Joey Rasdien, Skhumba, Snooze, Eugene Khoza, and Donovan, Jason and Nicholas Goliath.  Conjuring up some amazing magical comedy will be Mo Magic, while comedy newcomer Isabella Jane will have punters crying with laughter at her singing ventriloquism aided by sidekick, Rosie.  Rounding out the evening will be a fun charity auction at which Comedy Central will auction off a range of lots.  Further comedians will be announced shortly.
Jason and Donovan Goliath, ambassadors to Orange Babies, will act as MCs and celebrity auctioneers, persuading the great and good to part with their money for the two worthy causes. Lots include Trevor Noah’s grey silk tie from his first episode of The Daily Show, a signed photo of Lionel Messi, 4 nights’ accommodation for 2 people at the Tau Private Game Reserve, an hour in the studio live with Darren Simpson and the gang from 947’s Breakfast Express, a custom-made Marianne Fassler dress, a corporate gig by Goliath & Goliath, and a shopping and personal styling experience with the fashion editor at Zando.

Benefiting from the initiative will be Comedy Central’s nominated charities, Rockstart and Orange Babies.

Commented Evert van der Veer, Vice President, Comedy Central, Africa, ‘As a comedy channel based in Africa, we can think of nothing more fitting than using fun and laughter to raise funds for these two deserving causes.  Our first benefit was well received and we look forward to generating more money that will help Rockstart and Orange Babies achieve their goals.”
Tickets for Comedy Central Cares are now available at Ticketpro from Monday 8 August, priced R 500.  Doors open at 19:30 CAT.

ABOUT COMEDY CENTRAL CARES
Pioneered in 2013, Comedy Central Cares is a charitable initiative created by Comedy Central Africa, the home of comedy on the African continent.  The first Comedy Central Cares event, hosted by Gareth Cliff, took place at Parker’s, Montecasino and included stand-up performances from John Vlismas, Tumi Morake, Barry Hilton and Loyiso Gola.  All the comedians on the bill donated their time for free, while Parker’s donated the door takings, design company iClipse designed event branding for free, TV production company Mannequin waived a percentage of their production costs and Computicket waived all their booking fees.  A prize raffle packed with fascinating prizes persuaded the comedy punters at the gig to part with their hard-earned money.

In 2015, Comedy Central donated a percentage of profits of the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival (CCICF).  In July 2016, the channel organised a visit by US comedian Orlando Jones to the Mount Olive Centre for Orange Babies, to raise awareness of the plight of children and young babies affected by HIV and AIDS.

ABOUT ORANGE BABIES
Orange Babies South Africa is part of the Dutch Orange Babies charitable foundation whose purpose is to transform the lives of women and children infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS in Southern Africa. The foundation aims to help achieve an HIV-free generation. Since 1999, Orange Babies has translated this hope into saving thousands of lives, and assisted in drastically improving the quality of life for scores of others via partnering with, and providing financial support to, carefully selected organisations in South Africa, Namibia and Zambia that directly assist the most vulnerable communities in these countries.

ABOUT ROCKSTART
ROCKSTART is an initiative by TNF - this is a programme which aims to bridge the divide between the untapped potential of young people and the business challenge of finding, educating and keeping the best talent. Its curriculum covers all aspects of media and advertising, providing opportunities to work for major players in the industry. ROCKSTART offers students a full scholarship, a chance to interact with industry greats, life skills and coaching. Above all, it engages the students with real life brands and gets them working on live brand problems before they graduate, giving them an upper hand over their peers."
