Following the attack that killed 49 people in a gay club in Orlando, Florida, the organising committee of the Feather Awards send out their sincerest condolences and expresses solidarity with the LGBTI community of Orlando.  We are truly saddened and shocked by this senseless shooting. Although a single terrorist pulled the trigger - so many others are equally responsible for this tragedy. How many times in a day are we gay, lesbian, transgender, different, treated as ‘others’ and not citizens with equal rights? Even here - with our progressive Constitution - we are still treated with hatred that, all too often, goes unpunished. Very few are aware that the first film that recognised and utilised the province of KwaZulu-Natal as its stage was a film titled “A Zulu’s Devotion” which was shot in 1916. The film was directed by Joseph Albrecht. In celebration of this centenary of film making in the province, the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC) unveils its programme during the Durban International Film Festival.
